This month I am busy with projects in three school districts. I find myself driving from one end of the Peninsula to the other and am eating lunch in the car. Two of these projects are grant funded so I am looking to keep good track of time for future reference. I am also working on a grant project that entails envisioning and bringing to life a digital textile lab. For all of theses projects I need to keep very accurate track of my time and Keeptempo was recommended to me by my sister as she uses it in her multiple project tracking at Clif Bar. She really likes it.
I look forward to using this tool in the coming weeks and over the summer.

Montalvo Art Splash Installation
Today I spent a few hours with installer Dan of Montalvo Arts Center putting up the Cureton Elementary student textile works. The student work is in the Artist Residency Knight Commons above. The wisteria is in full bloom and smells wonderful! I cannot wait for the students to see their fabrics hanging in this beautiful space. I will also have a video of the art running on the TV in the Residency Commons. The students will be teaching a workshop on radial pattern design on Saturday for the Art Splash Student Showcase. They will be conducting this workshop across from the residency in the new Creekside Studio space area. This is a special place to be situated as we will be enacting the space for the first time, basically initiating the space and area for much art programming to come in that spot.

Spoonflower fabrics for Hawaii and San Jose Students
Many yards of fabric!
I was so excited to return from Sweden and see a big box from Spoonflower. In it were all the initial textile patterns of the Alum Rock, San Jose students and the Hawaii students in the You Are Here Street Banner Project. Some of the fabric will be cut into square and hemmed to create furoshiki wrapping cloths. I will be teaching the students how to use their custom fabrics as eco friendly carry bags. The remainder of the fabric will be used for an art installation at Montalvo Art Splash, a showcase of student art. The purchase of the fabric has been made possible by a MERIT mini grant from the Krause Center for Innovation. Scavanger Artists with a Message
In the last few days I have received emails from my dad and a friend sharing with me several amazing artists who use repurposed materials. Artist and educator Victor Kobayashi was featured in the Hawaii Star Advertiser. He makes beautiful mosaic ceramic art incorporating found objects. His works are at the Koa Gallery in Honolulu. The Koa Gallery is honoring Kobayashi with the 2011 KOA Award, a lifetime achievement honor for dedication to the arts. The award is accompanied by an exhibition; Kobayashi's "New Alchemy, Zen & Art" is showing at the gallery through April 14.
The National Parks Traveler featured the work of Richard James who has collected discarded bottles along the shore at Point Reyes and had created a dramatic site specific installation with them. More images of these bottles are at Donald Kinney's blog.
